Located about 75 miles west of Anchorage, Alaska, within the Tordrillo Mountains, is Mount Spurr – an 11,000-foot-tall volcano. And officials fear it could be heading toward an eruption.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory wrote that they are ‘monitoring activity at Mount Spurr for signals indicating that the volcano is moving closer to an eruption.’
They reported that seismic activity remains ‘elevated with numerous small, shallow volcanic earthquakes detected beneath the volcano.’ After observation flights flew over the volcano in early March, scientists reported increased levels of volcanic gases around the summit crater and the crater peak vent.

“So, that was that caught everyone’s attention at the observatory, because that’s the vent that the most recent eruptions came from,” said Matt Haney, a scientist-in-charge at the Alaska Volcano Observatory.
However, an eruption isn’t imminent. Experts say they expect to see more warning signs first, like ground deformation and increased steam activity as a result of magma rising closer to the surface. “If an eruption occurred, it would be preceded by additional signals allowing warning,” the officials said.
That said, people in South Central Alaska are being advised to start preparing and familiarise themselves with the possible dangers associated with an eruption. Ashfall, for example, would be a threat to surrounding communities.

Other hazards, like pyroclastic flows (a fast-moving mix of hot gas, ash and rock) and mudflows, would affect the immediate area of the volcano.
While no towns are located directly near Mount Spurr, the area is a popular destination for hikers and tourists. “Anyone considering a visit to the area around Spurr should be aware of these hazards, keep up to date with Spurr activity,” the group posted on X (formerly Twitter). “And obey any restrictions that might be put in place by land and emergency managers.”
In October 2024, the volcano’s alert level was raised from green to yellow after months of increased activity, such as small earthquakes. One of which was the formation of a small lake in the summit crater during the summer.
Mount Spurr has erupted several times in the past. In 1953, an eruption shot ash 30,000 feet into the air, which rained down on Anchorage and shut down the city’s main airport for two days.
Then, in 1992, three different eruptions happened in three separate months – June, August, and September. The August blast was the most troublesome, covering Anchorage in ash and closing three regional airports for 20 hours. The ash even drifted over the central part of the US, causing air traffic issues as far as the Midwest.

Jeff Bezos could soon have a new next-door neighbor, as one of America’s most expensive plots of land is up for sale.
Other locals include Tom Brady and Ivanka Trump, with a 1.84-acre plot of land currently on the market for an eye-watering $200 million.
We know Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk aren’t always the best of friends, but with the latter on track to be the world’s first trillionaire, he has more than enough cash to purchase the land.
Located in the area known as the ‘Billionaire Bucket’, Indian Creek Island lives up to its nickname thanks to an extortionate price tag.
The current owners didn’t wish to be named but apparently bought the plot for $27.5 million in 2018.

Indian Creek Island is one of the most exclusive addresses in the USA (Zillow)
Despite currently sitting vacant, the buyer can get predesigns for a 25,000-square-foot estate.
For your $200 million, you’ll also get 200 feet of waterfront on Biscayne Bay, which has enough room for you to build a deep-water dock that could fit a 180-foot megayacht.
After all, if you can pay $200 million for a plot of land, we imagine you might have a megayacht floating around.
As reported by Business Insider, the $200 million plot is priced far higher than what Bezos paid for any of his. The Amazon CEO bought a $68 million mansion and its adjacent property (costing $79 million) in 2023, then made another $90 million purchase in September 2024.
Ilya Reznik is representing the owners and told Business Insider that while it’s in ‘a very unique location’, Bezos’ purchases have pushed up the property value. Reznik said that while Bezos paid a ‘really high’ number, “now those prices are there and the market is there and higher.”

She added: “It’s not just Indian Creek, but everywhere in Miami and on the islands. And if it’s new, if it’s a new build house, buyers are willing to pay premium. This is just what’s going on in Miami.”
Reznik has reportedly shown the plot to a couple of interested buyers, although she admits the owners are open to negotiations if that $200 million is putting you off.
There are only 41 properties on Indian Creek, with the exclusive resort also boasting a private golf course and its own police force. In terms of privacy, a single bridge connects the 300-acre island to the mainland, ensuring that you aren’t disturbed.
The full listing for 9 Indian Creek Island refers to it as ‘one of the wealthiest, luxurious and most secure communities in Miami Beach and the world’, so what’s not to love?
If you fancy summer barbecues with Bezos, he recently said he’ll be moving to Miami after living in Seattle for 29 years so you might be seeing more of him around Indian Creek.
Still, shelling out $200 million for an empty plot of land means you might have to do a little more work before you’ll be inviting Bezos over for beers on your megayacht dock.

It’s not just Elon Musk who has wild plans for space.
Although SpaceX may be the first company you think of with ambitious space missions led by CEO Musk’s plans to colonise Mars, Jeffo Bezos has his own visions for humanity’s future beyond Earth.
Bezos may have gained most of his fame from founding Amazon but back in 2000, he also launched an aerospace company called Blue Origin.
Its recent project was focused on reusability and lowering the cost of access to space, following the completion of the New Glenn project’s first stages.
In December 2023, Bezos appeared on Lex Fridman’s popular podcast to talk about the future of Blue Origin.

The businessman shared his dreams for humanity in space and his tactics behind decision-making, along with a great story about how he once phoned Amazon’s customer service in a meeting.
Fridman asked him: ‘When you look up at the stars and think big, what do you hope is the future of humanity, hundreds and thousands of years from now out in space?’
Bezos replied: ‘I would love to see a trillion humans living in the solar system.
‘If we had a trillion humans, we would have, at any given time, 1,000 Mozarts and 1,000 Einsteins.
‘That and our solar system be full of life and intelligence and energy. And we can easily support a civilisation that large with all of the resources in the solar system.’
To kickstart his vision into reality, the 60-year-old entrepreneur said humanity should start by ‘building giant space stations’.
He believes planetary surfaces are just ‘way too small’ as they are and should be transformed ‘into giant space stations or something.’

He continued: ‘We will take materials from the moon and near-Earth objects and the asteroid belt and so on and build giant colonies and people will live in those.’
Building infrastructure on an entirely new planet brings the advantage of placing it wherever you want, according to the billionaire.
But he does appreciate that most people aren’t all for the idea of planetary migration, especially in the very early stages of space living. As such, he hopes that future generations will have the choice to live among the stars or stay grounded on Earth.
A clip of the podcast conversation was been posted on YouTube allowing viewers to share their opinions.
‘My man is ready to 100x humanity so he can have more customers. Game respects game,’ one wrote.
Another commented: ‘Billionaires who own rocket ship companies trying to sell the world on space living is one of the silliest ideas ever that is somewhat widely accepted.’

The second inauguration of Donald J. Trump will be remembered forever, with Joe Biden handing over power to the business mogul and the 47th President of the United States being officially sworn in.
There were some major names gathered at the Capitol Rotunda, and alongside former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, there was also Kamala Harris and others from the wider world of pop culture.
Jake Paul, Joe Rogan, Dana White, and Caitlyn Jenner are among those in attendance, but one of the big talking points is the gathering of the tech bros. Elon Musk, Tim Cook, Mark Zuckerberg, and Sam Altman are among the Silicon Valley bigwigs who’ve gathered to see Trump’s return to the White House.

It’s an occasion they’ll likely remember for the rest of their lives, but unfortunately for one of them, they’ll likely be remembered forever for the wrong reasons. Jeff Bezos is the second-richest man in the world, and with his $239.4 billion trailing far behind Elon Musk’s $433.9 billion, he’s got some catching up to do.
While attending Trump’s inauguration, Bezos was caught on camera seemingly scooping ear wax out of his ear.
It might not be as bad as being caught picking his nose, but with the moment going viral on X, it’s clear that many of you are disgusted by the billionaire’s gross habit.
One disgusted onlooker said: “Just watched Jeff Bezos dig ear wax out of his ear for a full 30 seconds.”
Another said, “Does Bezos know he just was just filmed digging earwax out…… 😭,” while a third joked, “Bezos needs to buy a Wush earwax removal kit from Amazon. STAT.”
Despite some beef in the past, Bezos has been cozying up to Trump more recently. He butted heads with Elon Musk when the latter claimed that Bezos said Trump was going to lose the election.
